The Honey Badger is a hard hitting boxing documentary that closely follows the life of Daniel Hayes as he prepares for his professional bout in Mexico.

I was aiming to create a film that could be emotionally accessible to all audiences. Although this film is a boxing documentary, we focused more on the intense behind the scenes preparation and Daniel’s deep thoughts as fighter. I felt this would give the film a better story and would allow the audience to freely fall in love with the iron willed professional boxer.

As a former professional athlete, I was eager to grasp on how boxers approach each fight. Are they afraid of getting hurt? What’s their mental approach? Fighting in different cities, does it truly play a role in the outcome of a fight? These are questions I tried to have answered throughout the duration of the film.

The one thing we realize in this film is Daniel Hayes has a sickening determination to be better than his opponent and he’s willing to go above and beyond to come out victorious. He possesses such an assassin like mentality, it can sometimes come across as threatening, but he can easily turn it on and off as he pleases. These are traits of a true winner, a true professional and a scary individual -- this gives the film the edge it needs. 

KB KUTZ Bio

KB Kutz is a professional athlete turned filmmaker. In his senior of high school, he was ranked amongst the top 50 basketball players in the nation; this then provided him an opportunity to play at the collegiate level. He then received an athletic scholarship at the prestigious UBC (University of British Columbia) he studied Sociology and quickly went on to play professional basketball in the NBLC (National Basketball of Canada) for the Moncton Miracles. After a year of playing professionally, his love for the game diminished and the love for filmmaking began to emerge. At age 27, he began teaching himself about film, cameras, directing and editing. With no previous background, it was clear to see he was given a gift to make film as he began to be sought-after by many musicians, athletes, and businesses around North America.
